This half
day tour through the modern and progressive city of
Dubai (also known as City of Gold) is really an interesting
one. Dubai still retains much of its original character
with the over crowded creek with the ancient dhows and
the wind- towers of the old houses in the Bastakiya
District.
The Dubai creekside is a contrast of old and new.
The tour starts from the elegant Jumeirah Mosque, which
is a landmark of Dubai followed by the Jumeirah Beach,
Jumeirah Hotel - the jewel in the crown of Dubai - to
Nad Al Sahiba race course where you can see herds of
camels coming and going for training. We return to Zabeel
Palace, the family residence of the ruling Al Maktoum
family after passing through the little Manhattan (posh
area of Dubai with innumerable sky scrapers) and the
towering World Trade Centre.
We proceed further to the creek side to see the Skyline
of Dubai where you can see the fascinating views of
skyscrapers and to Bastakiya, which is the old part
of Dubai. Next to visit is the 150 year old Al Fahidi
Fort Museum, which shows some interesting artefacts
which throw light on Dubai's historical links with trading
and pearl diving. After the visit to beautifully restored
Palace of Sheikh Saeed, the grandfather of present ruler
of Dubai you will be dropped at Abra (the ancient water
taxi ferry) crossing point from where you cruise along
the creek enjoying its beauty.
A visit to the spice souq and gold souq gives you
an insight into Dubai's growth as a major trading centre.
The last leg of the trip takes you to have a glimpse
of Deira City Centre (the largest shopping mall in UAE),
Emirates Training College, Aviation College, Dubai Creek
Golf & Yacht Club and Wonderland.
